Readable overview of the state of British meteorology at the start of the 20th century, aimed at the lay reader of the time. Much has changed since then (the author waxes enthusiastic about the recent discovery of the link between sunspots and the weather, which link has since proved to be less than well founded) but much remains valid albeit very incomplete.

Towards the end things get a bit jumpy as the author moves from a coherent view of the entire system of weather to simply explaining individual phenomena.… (mehr)
