Also surprisingly good. I was not expecting much of anything from these books, and I'm definitely less than impressed at the waste of all 4 trades each containing Hunt For Wolverine #1. It's redundant and wasteful and a blatant ploy to jack up the prices. But beyond that, the story is good and Taylor is an excellent writer.

Ok, that one was better than Claws of a Killer. I knew that thing happened at some point in recent continuity but didn't know it was here. Very weird place to put it, but hey, made this story actually interesting lol

This was ok. Nothing special, and I'm already kinda over the event but have 4 more "Where in the world is Carmen Sandi-Logan?" series to get through so it's very possible my rating will go down later lol

Really didn't need Peter Parker coming back. Kind of irrelevant now with Secret Wars and all, but still.

Having made Kite Man interesting, Tom King tries to burnish the reputation of another of Batman's lesser rogues but with much less success since he goes for grimness instead of humor. Mostly, this is a heist story with Riddler and Catwoman stealing a MacGuffin from Batman and going on the run as they try to sell it to the mysterious mastermind behind the whole affair.

The narration gets tied down in tedious detail that makes sense in the story but gets to be a little much to read.

Still, Catwoman and Riddler's back and forth is fun, the Help -- a new villain with deep retcon roots -- is cool, and the art of David Marquez is magnificent. And the dumb punchline of an ending made me chuckle even as its meta aspects insulted me.

So a lukewarm thumbs up.

Reread of Baby!Jean Arc

Still deeply agreeing with earlier reviews.

~~

I continue on in my perseverance to read all the things that have (new) Jean Grey in them, and that makes this title a blast. Jean keeps me in this, hands tight on the reins and Bendis keeps bringing out the bing punches of awesome. I'm loving seeing the children having to go through old things (like the training sessions) as much as new things (the fighting, the massive groups of infighting, and having to deal with their alter selves and people who treat them as though they've known them for decades and not days).

Bobby-Bobby and Hank-Hank continue to be utterly amazing in completely different ways. Seeing Angel and Warren meet was high on my happy list. I am loving bitty!Scott versus his older self, but we are still working Scott up to whether he even can be the person to step in and show some clarity and points to his older, wounded self.

Everything that has to do with Jean -- withbitty!Scott, Logan, Ororo and Kitty -- continues to play out with such interest to me. The way her untrained powers are out of check, yes. The way people keep telling her "I don't let people in my head, but it's you and just this once" while at the same time telling her seconds later "don't do that!" It's a lot of mixed messages, and the slipping in and out is gorgeous.

I can't wait to see where all five of our children and all of the X-Men as Jean Grey's School will keep going from here.

4.5 stars

I got wind of all these characters—well, except for Daredevil—from the run of original Marvel shows Netflix has been doing the past few years. Some are better than others, but I liked the Defenders enough to try out this new graphic novel series about them.
And it was great! The art is fantastic—I love how each character is drawn. And Iron Fist is so funny with Bendis writing him, much better than the Iron Fist in the comic I tried last year, or Netflix’s depiction of the character, for that matter.
Besides Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil, Volume 1 is full of other familiar faces too. I’m sure I didn’t catch everyone I was supposed to recognize, but each one I did catch made me happy.
As always, when I dive into the Marvel universe, I feel like I’m just treading water. I know I have gaps in my backstory knowledge, because I just don’t read that many superhero comics. But being familiar with the shows was enough background to enjoy this, even if I didn’t know how the characters got to the starting point of this story. Jessica and Luke married, for example?
This is a good choice for people who know a bit about each character already. If you don’t, it will probably make you sad and confused. But Iron Fist might still make you laugh.

Volume 2 was fine. I love the art, for the most part, but I can’t always tell what’s going on in the fights. I wasn’t always sure what order the panels were supposed to be in either. But I do love these characters as they’re portrayed in this arc, and I’ll probably read the next installment.

This was cute, each character is unique in its own way, love Star lord with a beard and a zen Drax. Not sure if I want to read more about the guardians as a team but I definitely want to read more of Groot.

The artwork is vibrant and the story is captivating, I wonder what’s going on with Groot, and what secrets Gamora is hiding.

I read issue #0 a few years ago. Really enjoyed this one. The last 5 pages kept me on my feet. The series has a lot of tie in issues which confuse me a bit so I probably won't be continuing this series.

Continued development and plot twists focusing on the original X-Men team (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Ice Man, Beast, and Angel). Each character feels developed and involved in the story. It is interesting to see each character encounter either their flesh and blood counterpart, or their future "ghosts". Also a little thread of intrigue from some famous villains.

Hoping to catch up on my comics rating backlog this week...

On first blush I didn't really like this but rereading it I'm really enjoying it. There's the typical Bendis humor (Kitty and Bobby having Cap and Beast's conversation while we can't hear the actual conversation is genius), but a real darker edge to this that really feels like everything is one step away from disaster. Stuart Immonen continues to be a perfect match for Bendis - I sometimes feel like his style is a little cartoony, but it works really well for the more startling material, too (like Jean's nightmare). This continues to be a lot of fun.

This New Iron Man series is off to a great start and I can't wait to see where it goes. We get Dr. Doom, who seems to be turning a new leaf since Secret Wars ending. We got Madam Masque and some great action scenes.

At the end of the book, it looks like MJ (Mary Jane from Spider-man) will be hanging around Tony soon and I can't wait. I've missed seeing her.

We've had some great scenes in this volume with Dr. Doom, Iron Man and Masque.

I like Miles! Unfortunately for me, this little run is way too short and skimpy. I read about Parker's death, I read Superior Spider-Man, but I missed the whole Ultimates run and Galacticus, so just trying to get to know Miles for the first time here is not exactly the smartest thing I could have done. *sigh*

Still, I love the spoilers. The whole passing-the-mantle thing. Primo. The art's good. The story is pretty decent. I love what's happened to Green Goblin. I can chew the cud on this one for a bit.

So how do I like Miles? Well, I wasn't too worried that I would think that he was a PC stand-in for Pete, because I've read too many reviews from ppl I trust that set me straight on it. He's a cool dude. And I agree. I just wish the run could get away with using the actual #*%&%$# words. :)

Very solid, but something about it made me wish there was something deeper and developed about it. Of course, I had the same complaint with Bendis's whole Ultimate Spidey run. Quick, polished, and always pretty light. Except, of course, when he killed off Pete. But fortunately for us, we live in a comic world where death isn't really permanent, so yay!

The art's still good and the storylines are pretty damn fast, but at least they're coherent even with the non-main-character flashbacks. A lot of the story is pretty much a scattershot of elements. I mean, girlfriend is hydra and Doom is working with the local chapter? Okay. Maybe not the best storyline, and it didn't have pretty much any depth to it.

Still, I like Miles. I want to see him get into deep trouble over a long story arc. This just didn't fit the bill, and it's now over. Where oh where are you, Miles?

Time to go on a Bendis bender! (#2 of 8)

An underwhelming villain, a conclusion deferred to the next volume, and a surprising lack of chemistry between the members of the Defenders make for a lukewarm debut. And I must have missed it, but at some point they went from a bunch of heroes who know each other and are bumbling around against a c-list bad guy to calling themselves the Defenders like it's a thing.

Nice Bendis scenes and dialogue can only carry the enterprise so far. The book needs a purpose to exist beyond there being a TV show.

The more I read of this the more I want to watch the TV series(s). This story features Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones along with an appearance from the Punisher, this time the four heroes have taken on a drug dealer and he eeks revenge on them and they have to deal with someone who has powers and is using them for his own gain, there's a lot of colateral damage.

Its interesting and I want more.½
