A fun and interactive children's book that is wonderful for Christmas. My only dislike is that it says holidays instead of Christmas.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The New King James Version presented in chronological order, with illustrations and copious notes on the history of Biblical times. The visuals are stunning. The text is presented chronologically, but it doesn't seem to be highly detailed. I still think it's worthy of study for anyone interested in studying the Bible based on a chronological timeline. The notes, articles, and graphics make this an excellent bible for study and reflection.

Cocoa's Cranky Christmas is a wonderful interactive Christmas book to bring holiday joy and cheer!

I think this is a wonderfully unique book that really stood out to me! Not only are the illustrations fun, but the idea of having an interactive book where you make faces at it and goof around? That's awesome! I really like it and think it's an excellent addition to any little one's book shelf.

Four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

The Garden Children’s Bible is a fun way to teach children God’s Word. Lenny the Lion and his best friend, Lucy the Lamb, are the adorable main characters from a Christian cartoon series who receive messages from The Boss (God) (The Boss) and are sent on exciting adventures. These garden friends help readers understand Bible passages and lessons.

Using colorful comic strip style illustrations and Christian cartoon characters Lenny and Lucy, this Bible keeps children entertained, engaged, and edified.

The Bible contains activity pages, memory verses, character descriptions, prayers, miracles, promises, names of God, and other learning tools. And the International Children’s Bible (ICB) translation (not a storybook or paraphrased Bible) simplifies the text for young readers to better understand. And Lenny and Lucy help children learn sound Biblical truths and lessons.

The two-column design, chapter/verse numbers, presentation page, and an attached satin marker offers a similar appearance to traditional Bibles, but with an appealing, vibrant twist that gets children’s attention. What a wonderful, fun, and inspiring way for our kids to become more acquainted with God’s Word! This makes a wonderful addition to any child’s library.

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people who are like these children.”
Matthew 19:14 (ICB)

Love the christological and trinitarian footnotes applied throughout the Old Testament. Beautiful iconography. The lectionary and Morning/Evening prayers are also nice if you need them (it's more convenient for me to use this Orthodox calendar app I have for those).

A note for this review: This is not a review base on the stories contained inside the Bible, as doing so is probably best done by someone who studies religion/theology which this reviewer does not, nor is it based on any of the reviewer's personal faith/beliefs. Instead this review is based of the particular version's construction, organization, and additional explanatory content.

Reviewers copy printing: 2006-2007 leather bound edition.

Overall Fireside's New American (Catholic) Bible is a very well constructed and organized edition with the chapter neatly separated and bolded that can be useful when looking for a particular passage. Each page also has references to other passages and footnotes that give extra context or an alternative lay persons translation that allows for better extending reading and accessibility respectively. The only issue (and this is a tiny nitpick) is the text font is fairly small and compact (not surprising for a Bible of this version's size) and can be a minor issue if the reader had sight problems. This particular version also contains a impressive amount of additional content apart from scriptures including but not limited to; an expansive dictionary/encyclopedia of terms, maps. a yearly rotation calendar with reading for specifics days/feasts, a guide for the celebration of the Eucharist, and prefacing explaining the origins and history of the creation of the Bible. A very comprehensive and accessible (in other words understandable) version that would useful to students and practicing church goers alike.½

Chronological Guide to the Bible, Thomas Nelson
This is a great historical reference that could be easily integrated into any history class. It would be especially helpful in home school settings where study of the bible and history are done jointly. I like the way it is easily divided. It presents both biblical writings and archeological finds that support the bible. I find this to be very interesting and helpful when presenting the bible as a history lesson. The color photographs make the text come alive and make the reading more interesting. Another helpful things is the outline of the books and suggested readings. Anyone wanting to delve deeper into the bible and see how the bible fits together will find this interesting. This makes the study of individual bible stories come alive as one is able to see and understand further the historical settings of the bible. Understanding the culture of the people involved in a bible story makes those stories more real for the student, they begin to see that the bible is not merely penned words but actual events that can be backed up with scientific facts and finds. I recommend this book as a great resource. It is easily adaptable to any translation which makes it especially nice if you want to use it as a teaching tool in a small group setting.
Thank you Thomas Nelson for providing this review copy

First, my disappointments: The New Testament is just the NKJV and I'm still unsure how widely used this version actually is in the Orthodox Church (i.e. I don't think it is much). The Old Testament, while being one of the few translations of the LXX available in English, also used the OT from the NRSV extensively in preparation and thus inherited many of the linguistic deficiencies of that translation.

However, the good bits: The commentary and footnotes are, in themselves, worth the price of the book. They explain Orthodox theology and ecclesiology from a biblical perspective and are always interesting even, or perhaps especially, if one doesn't necessarily agree with them.

In addition, the leather bound edition is beautifully made and has colorful reproductions of various well-known icons interspersed throughout the text.

All in all, worth having. I do hope, however, that a future Orthodox Bible in English comes out that uses more originally Orthodox sources for its English translation.

Many try to recreate the joy found in the book Press Here. There have been many imitators, and this is one of them. The book asks the reader to do various things to help cheer up a crank Cocoa. This dog has a grump complex and it will take all readers to bring on the happy. A fun story for the holidays or even anytime.

The Lucado Encouraging Word Bible: Experiencing the Heart of Jesus from Thomas Nelson features the New King James Version text. A preface of substantial length addresses the choice of this translation version. An introduction, Bible reading plan, and a letter from General Editor, Max Lucado, also precedes the text. Following the Biblical text is a compact, daily study that was previously published as “30 Studies for New Believers.” Various acknowledgements, maps, and topical verse references conclude The Lucado Encouraging Word Bible.

I ordered the gray, hardcover version of The Lucado Encouraging Word Bible. This Bible arrived enclosed in an attractive, sturdy sleeve that I have continued keeping it while it is not in use. As such, my Bible still looks almost new though I have been using it for over a month. The Bible has two, handy, built-in bookmarks.

Thus far, I have been pleased with the devotional content in this Bible. While I do not agree with everything, I have found it mostly uplifting. It is important to note that this is not a study Bible, although it does have some footnotes. From what I can tell, many of the devotional portions are from Max Lucado’s previous books, though there may be some new devotions included. I am a fan of how full of grace and love Max’s writings are. They lack the harshness that some conservative Bible teachers promote.

Final Thoughts: I am pleased with The Lucado Encouraging Word Bible: Experiencing the Heart of Jesus from Thomas Nelson and Max Lucado. I look forward to using this Bible for many years as it does come with Thomas Nelson’s “Guaranteed for Life” program.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this product via the Amazon Vine program. All opinions in this review are my own.

This is a lovely and thoughtful devotional, with a passage of an Austen novel serving as a springboard for a spiritual thought and Scripture text. It's interesting, engaging, and concise.

This is such a special book for your little ones because PJ Time has 100 devotions that are perfect for bedtime reading! Each devotion has Bible scripture, interesting facts about our world, and a question that offers a chance for further discussion, with text that is appropriate for children ages 4-8. This age group also loves pictures and the illustrations by Ela Smietanka are both fun and colorful. I especially like the Shine Your Light Into the Night section at the end of each devotion and I think that a small flashlight and a copy of this book would be a wonderful gift for the special children in your life.

Children need to know about God and His creation and I know that my six-year-old granddaughter is especially intrigued with the moon, stars, and lightning bugs in the summer! I am thrilled to have PJ Time so that we can share God's nighttime world together!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

The OT is great because it’s a new translation of the Septuagint. The NT is less great, because the editors decided to use the NKJV, a comparatively weak translation among other contemporary ones. But the study notes are the reason to read this one. As a United Methodist the Eastern Orthodox perspective was great to be immersed in, especially how many of the OT notes are Christological interpretations, and how many of all the notes refer to the use of Scripture in the liturgy and at particular times of the church year. One annoyance was times when notes referred to “the Church teaches” rather than naming the particular Church Father or other source of an interpretation, cutting off further reading and further following curiosity to the sources.

This is a wonderfully illustrated book by Maddie Frost, published by Tommy Nelson. The book features three little animals, a Fox, Alligator, and a little Pig doing fun activities that little ones would do in the springtime. Have jellybeans at Easter time, play in the rain, and jump in puddles. Activities your little one can do in the springtime, these little animals are doing in this wonderfully colorful book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

A Jane Austen Devotional consists of excerpts from six Austen novels with devotional commentary by Steffany Woolsey, concluding with a relevant Bible verse. While Austen doesn’t explicitly address religion and theology in her novels, they are under-girded by a Christian ethic. Austen’s heroines weigh their own conduct and that of others against a biblical moral standard. Close reading of passages from the novels provides the reader with deeper insight into Austen’s characters, as well as with encouragement to develop virtues such as kindness, respect for others, contentment, and forgiveness, and with caution to avoid negative traits such as envy, worry, self-centeredness, and a critical spirit. The primary audience appears to be young adult women, with some devotions assuming that the readers are or will be wives and mothers. However, most of the devotions will apply to readers in any stage of life.½

While I am not yet entirely finished reading this version of the Bible, I wanted to get the review out of the way, as I love the historical notes, but I hate the point of view. Yes, I know, it is a Christian study Bible based on the New KJV, so what should I have expected, but still. Wonderful notes and images and maps.
