And equally, just to scratch the surface of an ugly plant or something, whenever they play the Join a Winning Team hiring ad at work, I’m reminded of the crazy-cold-war novel where team sports were indicative of divided loyalties and commie sympathies. There’s success in the market, and there’s neurotic dreaming, and they can both be called capitalism. But now I’m really not talking about the book—common sense; a good portion of your spiritual life can be work, etc. But yes: I know that you shouldn’t have to feel two foot small because you’re the perfect combination of pretty and good at basketball (if you will).

After-note: Although the Believe It! girl isn’t quite alternative consciousness like this girl (from the Secret), I can’t help but be reminded of the Believe It! girl, who didn’t quite have a theory of selling as much as a story of how she had learned by doing. This girl (Secret girl) does write a normal non-fiction book with theory, but she also emphasizes learning and earning by doing, and not always by super-human theorizing, you know.… (mehr)
