Therese O'Malley

A leader in the field of architectural and landscape history and, as Associate Dean at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National
Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Therese O'Malley has touched the lives and mentored the careers of many of us in this room today. She was a Senior
Fellow in Garden and Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks (D.O.), 1989–1996, and in the years since then, has continued to advise D.O. informally.
Therese is a founding member of the Foundation for Landscape Studies, and a board member of the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy in Baltimore. She
serves on The New York Botanical Garden's Library Visiting Committee and the Advisory Board for the Botanical Garden's Mellon Humanities Institute.
Since 2010 she has been as an advisor to the United States Ambassadors Fund for the State Department.
A life member of SAH, Therese O'Malley served as vice president and then president of the Society of Architectural Historians from 2000 to 2006, during
which time she helped found the SAH Landscape History Chapter (2004). In recognition of her capacious scholarship, generous mentoring, and
extraordinary institutional leadership, Therese O'Malley has been inducted as a Fellow of the Society of Architectural Historians.
