Much better than I thought it would be. Written with passion for historical detail, the dry historical piece, compelling as it is, is only the first 95 pages. After that is a set of first-hand stories from two people who were there in 1935, and then a charming story about how some Digger-types in 1960s San Francisco recovered some primary documents that this book's first editions didn't have. The last 50 pages or so are all facsimiles of primary documents as well.
I have not seen previous editions of this book, but the addition of the primary documents recovered in 2014 indicate that this edition is a vast improvement over the original. You don't have to be interested in Eureka; this book is indispensable for all students of labor history. Very enjoyable read, nice to have something besides the breakneck cadence of "Labor's Untold Story." Highly recommended.… (mehr)
