The Very Very Very Long Dog by Julia Patton is a cute book about a dog's adventures through town. Bartleby is a long, long, long dog who causes problems wherever he goes because he does not know where his hind end is. His friends try to calm everyone down and fix his problems but it can't always be done. His friends do not want to see him sadly staying in the bookstore, so they come up with a solution to the problem. The story is funny and light-hearted. I love the vocabulary used in this book. The author does not talk down to the reader and I can see some discussions about the meaning of some of the words taking place. Definitely a great vocabulary builder. The illustrations are cute and kids will love this dog, especially when he ends up attacking himself in the rear end. This story teaches the reader/listener to accept everyone no matter their differences as well as embracing your own differences.
