My heart hurt so much for Kate and Wilder. At first my trust in Kate was instantly gone as fast as Wilder felt betrayed, but the more we learn I realized how much these two have missed out on. Kate deserved to be heard and not judged, but I think we have all felt like Wilder or know we can when our trust is tested, but to spend ten years apart? That is the true tragedy of it all. Wilder should have stayed and listened to his heart, but his head wouldn’t allow it so now how do they figure things out? Has too much time passed them by? Can Kate forgive Wilder for just giving up? Will Wilder stay and fight for their love? And Who is guilty of all this demise? This second chance romantic suspense was heartbreakingly beautiful, and I wanted to smack the crap out a few people like Kate’s parents, a few others, and sometimes the main characters to pull their heads out of their you know where. This book had so many twists, turns, and things that kept me glued to it the whole time. Cody is hired to take a job to protect a professor near his old hometown. When he left years ago, he did it with a heavy heart and no intention of coming back. Cody finds out that the guy he must help is his one and only love of his life’s ex-husband. He isn’t too thrilled with this, and a lot of things seem to be happening that doesn’t make a lot of sense, but once he lays eyes on Emelia again it’s like no time had passed. Emelia comes from a wealthy family that rumors surround with having mafia like ties, but Emelia always just played off, but she did know her father had his moments where he could be cold and cruel. When Cody left, she was so broken hearted, and she couldn’t understand why but now that he is back, and they find out the reasons things change. Emelia doesn’t want to be hurt again but she can’t resist Cody and the love they had. They had to learn each other again, navigate all these negative things coming for them, and the people set out to hurt them while trying to fall again. Will Emelia let her guard down to let Cody back in or will her fear reject him? Can Cody see past his anger at her family to be able to move? This was very entertaining, cute, and action packed.… (mehr)

There was a lot going on in this book! I definitely recommend reading book 1 in the Reed Hawthorne Security series before coming to this one. I really liked Alicia and Paxton and the relationship between them. The action starts right off the bat and it really doesn't stop until the end of the book. So it absolutely held my interest. The chemistry and relationships between all of the characters are very well written and there is enough comedy within to also keep you laughing.

From the moment Alicia said words to hurt Paxton in the beginning and he left her, I knew that something was off and it was agitating me that he wasn't figuring it out. But I could tell he was also blinded by that hurt and needed time to figure out what was really going on. But I didn't expect all of the twists and turns! There was a lot happening and enough side characters to keep you wondering who was involved and who was an innocent bystander. I love it when a book is unpredictable. And while you have a good understanding of who the ultimate villain is, there is still so much more going on to keep you guessing as to who else is involved.

I truly enjoyed reading this book and I'm excited for the next one! It's always great to have a series like this because you get to see so many of the characters from the books before and after.
