Well worth a read, this book is based on life in Hollins Green, 14 miles from Manchester in the Warrington direction, beyond Irlam and Cadishead.

Autobiographical novel about growing up in Lancashire around 1900. There is not much plot, it is mainly incident and personality. The personalities are vividly drawn. The main character a little less so, but everybody else comes alive. She tells what the life was like, what the entertainments and village holidays were, about school & church & reading. This is the first of 3 books.
