The Nowhere Girls is a great start to a new series! The main character, Nikki, is strong, determined, and intelligent, and it's going to be fun and interesting to get to know her as the series continues! I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Madeline Pell, did a fantastic job! The story is nonstop action, with plenty of secrets and twists and turns, family drama, and much more! Thank you, Partners in Crime Virtual Tours, Dana Perry, and Bookouture, for sharing this book with me!

Detective Abby Pearce has returned home after 10 years with the NYPD. She's looking forward to a slower pace, but that's unfortunately not meant to be. When Samantha Claymore, daughter of a wealthy cosmetic empire, goes missing, Abby is put in charge because of her previous experience. Some things about the case just don't add up, and Abby must confront some past demons that caused her to leave home so many years ago.

I give this story a solid 3 stars. I liked the plot fine enough but some of the writing was a bit... lacking I guess. The wording of the characters seemed a bit juvenile at times. I would definitely read another book in the series. I liked Abby's character. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.… (mehr)

Abby Pearce is not quite likable, nor is she really dislikable, but she is a bit enthralled with her celebrity like super cop crime-buster status which dates to when she was a detective with the NYPD. She carries a lot of baggage not least that she is a drink away from being a full fledged alcoholic which the reader is reminded on every other page. A reminder of this character flaw once or twice might have been necessary but the excessive repetition was annoying.

Returning to her hometown on Martha’s Vineyard and joining the local police force after a near career blow-up in NY she snags a multiple homicide. It turns into a sh**storm and quickly becomes evident that nothing is getting solved quickly. Pearce is free and loose of her criticism of her Chief and I kept wondering what he thought of her. Her investigative skills, while methodical in searching out the killer, seems to leave her wanting and left-footed in more personal situations. Much like the protagonist I have read better and worse police procedurals.

This was a quick read with many twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley and Bookoutre for a copy.

friction, Massachusetts, abduction, law-enforcement, family-dynamics, detective, suspense, due-diligence, corruption, betrayal, red-herrings, reporter, alcohol-issues, trust-issues*****

The publisher's blurb is a really good hook and only a little misleading so I won't go there, and spoilers are just wrong. There is a bit of possible romance, can't be called a procedural for a few reasons but the due diligence seems impeccable. Very well written and the suspense is awesome.
I really loved it and had to finish it in one day!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Bookouture via NetGalley. Thank you!
