Firstly, if you are a Fannibal you should have this book. If you don't already own it, remedy that.
Secondly - this book is so much like the series - gorgeous to look at, witty, full of sly humour and managing to draw you in while grossing you out. It is dark, gothic and beautiful, and the epitome of food porn. The beautiful styling of the series carries over to the book.
And Mads comes across as super-talented and witty in real life so that makes me happy too :)

OMG, it is perfect! Everything I ever wanted from a Hannibal book! I mean, it's a book based on a cult TV show about a serial killing cannibal and it has RECIPES?!? This EXISTS?! It has beautiful pictures and is funny and I'm not imagining it? wow

The fact that I have this in my hands makes me feel so loved and accepted by the universe.

Well... it's close to perfect. Hahah, there was this one paragraph where she spelled Filipino "Philipino," which I have never seen in my 32 years as a Filipina. Also, she misspelled dinuguan as "dinguan" haha. Oh well. It really is quite good, though. I am afraid of finishing it lest the fun be over!

PS If you are interested, it is really easy to get pig blood in a Filipino grocery store. I made some sanguinaccio dolce for a dinner party.

PPS I am not a serial killing cannibal

Claire and her family move away from the city to start up a bakery in the country. Unfortunately, Claire's mother goes missing suddenly. It is up to Claire to find her mother and bring her home. The protagonist was a strong female lead with a big imagination and wit. If I were a child reading this book, I would have enjoyed her journal entries the most because they would have allowed me to feel a closer connection to the main character. The novel often seemed to push an agenda about eating organic, non-GMO food, which I didn't expect to read about in a children's graphic novel. The constant push for organic food may have been informative, but it also tittered on the line of snobby. The book illustrated a divorced family, which provided diversity that I think made this book appealing. The bravery and cleverness of Claire also makes this book appealing for readers who enjoy adventures and mysteries, although I had wished it was marketed more for both genders. The size of the book just small enough to carry around in around in a large jacket pocket, which is very convenient. Also, the pictures were simple and bright, and I was happy to see that there was a variety in warm colors, rather than just pink.… (mehr)

I haven't read too many graphic novels, but I thought this one was pretty good. It was a regular story just told in 'graphic' form.
I would use this to show my students that there are other types of graphic novels besides Marvel superhero based ones.
