I liked reading this book for many reasons. I liked that even though this is an informational book, the author decided to give it a narrative element. He did this by creating three illustrated big cats (a tiger, lion, and cheetah) to guide readers throughout the book. These cartoon cats could be found on every page of the book, usually with speech or thought bubbles surrounding them. In addition, I liked the author’s use of text features in this book. He included captions for all of the photographs, maps of where these animals live, and diagrams labeling the parts of the animals. I felt that these text features enhanced the information in the book and were bold enough to capture the reader’s attention. The main idea of this book was to describe the life of tigers, lions, and cheetahs. The book examines the lifestyle, habitats, and diet of these three creatures.… (mehr)

Review: This book is about Antarctica and the different penguin species that exist there. The story of the book takes place in seven weeks. The first week is all about the different penguin species that are in Antarctica. The second week is about the life of a penguin in the water and the food they catch. The third week is about the different predators that penguins have to look out for. The fourth week is about the weather in Antarctica that penguins adapt for. The fifth week is about how penguins maneuver around in the snow. Week six is about how penguins mate with each other, then lay their eggs, then hatch, and how penguin chicks grow up. The seventh week is about how the penguins have so much land almost all to themselves.

Genre: Informational
Genre Critique: This book was a great example of an informational book because it showed real life pictures of the penguins. On each page there were true facts about the penguins. It gives dimensions about the size of penguins and how much they weighed. This book was full of facts about penguins and antarctica.
