Jackie Randall

Emelin is an apprentice to her uncle who illuminates manuscripts. When he dies after taking on the job of illuminating the work of the famous Geoffrey Chaucer, E flees with the work to try to find a safe place to complete the work and claim the huge fee. On the way she meets a boy called Wolf who rescues her from an evil and violent thief. Together they flee to an Abbey where the Abbot sees E 's skill and agrees to let her use the upstairs room to work, next to some other monks who are also writing and illuminating. One of these monks has it in for her and will stop at nothing to get his hands on Chaucer's work and claim the illumination as his own.
