I'm finding this to be a solid, thorough resource to have on hand when trying to study or research the Greeks. Key schools of thought are distilled to basic thought leaders and tenets and presented very clearly in a few pages each. What's really helpful is that each thought is linked to the overall Hellenic framework and in comparison to the developments that led to its adoption as well as similar or differing philosophies in comparison, so you can seamlessly be reminded of the context and import of the ideas and of the rigorous debates each represents. Well written, researched and hyperlinked to chapters and a footnoted glossary. Incredibly welcome guide for students at the college and university level, and written clearly enough that parts would be helpful for Advanced Placement or Honors class high schoolers as well.… (mehr)

Certainly part of the genre that is not lacking in books, Rauche's "A Student's Key to Ancient Greek Thought," is a refreshing take on the famous Greek speakers. A bit confusing in it's layout, this book is best saved for the college students in a political science classes.

This classical book is a powerful account of the thinking of the great philosophers to whom we are indebted for leading the way out of the darkness of superstition and myths, for setting the platform for science, for raising the bar for our thinking, for expressing freedom of speech and honest discourse and for the sheer joy of living an examined life, even today. When it comes to the ancient Greek philosophers, government, ethics, critical thinking and even the universe was explored. The book gives a great overview of the ancient greek philosophers: Thales, Epicurus, Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle to name a few. This is a valuable companion for the student of philosophy, whether at college or university, or at home.

The author, Gerhard Albin Rauche, is the author of 16 books and monographs, 22 book-chapters and more than 70 journal articles. This edition is the first available in kindle format.
