Regimental Committee

This is the original book published by the Regimental Committee in late 1949, early 1950, giving the history of the 5 Bn. The Gloucestershire Regiment during the Second World War. In June 1941, it was converted to become the 43 Reconnaissance Regiment as the divisional reconnaissance unit for 43 (Wessex) Infantry Division. It served with the 43 Infantry Division throughout the Second World War, suffering heavy loss of life on 24 June 1944 with the sinking of the 'Derry Cunihy' off Normandy. The regiment was rebuilt using a squadron from the Green Howards reconnaissance regiment, and as such, it served throughout the campaign in North-West Europe.
