I feel that some of the concepts presented were not adequately explained, and many of the vocabulary words were not defined. Will children learn that bacon comes from pigs? Not here. Will they learn that venison and deer are the same? Not here. Will they be familiar with the dinnertime term “shepherd’s pie”? Maybe, maybe not. As beautiful as this book is to look at, I can’t give it a hearty recommendation.… (mehr)

The warm and cheerful artwork complements the text well. A good book for libraries and schools, best for 2-7 year olds.

A truly lovely book which shows in a simple way how sustainable farming works for a family while the dad is out in the fields doing the heavy labor.
Silvopasture (silva is forest in Latin) is the practice of integrating trees, forage, and the grazing of domesticated animals in a mutually beneficial way. (Sneaky way to advance vocabulary)
The illustrations by Amanda Morrow are simple yet detailed, colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
