One approaches this book with a great deal of excitement because of the emphasis of Common Core to integrate nonfiction into content areas. Alas, the book is a disappointment. The authors have assembled projects that young people can do under various common science topics. On the opening page, they provide the information about two trade books they recommend, then they never mention them again. The balance of the topic is about the project. We were neither impressed by the books recommended or the projects supposedly based on those titles. The need to integrate the reading of both literature and informational books into science is a topic that many are trying to grapple with. We are looking for better and better ideas for doing so.
