It's quite a light and easy read despite dealing with difficult topics like unprocessed grief and depression. The protagonist is engaging and relatable, and while certainty a little "quirky" at times she never crossed over into annoying. That's a fine line to walk with me!
The author must have some experience working in secondary schools from the description and frustrations that Emily has as a teacher. It did take me back to my stint as a School Librarian!
The plot is wholly predictable but I think that is the point as Emily learns what truly makes a life worth living as she works through her guilt and grief over being the "boring" twin that survived.
I've read a few books lately with similar themes ([b:The Midnight Library|52578297|The Midnight Library|Matt Haig|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1602190253l/52578297._SY75_.jpg|74043794] and [b:The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue|50623864|The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue|V.E. Schwab|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1584633432l/50623864._SY75_.jpg|46895612]) and I enjoyed this one the most by quite a stretch because it keeps things simple, and doesn't get distracted dressing things up in fantasy concepts.
This was a super solid 4 stars for me - loved it but I just didn't have my life changed!… (mehr)
