It’s said that for an advertising professional, life isn’t complete until and unless you have read and re-read every single word of the bible of advertising- ‘Ogilvy on Advertising’. It’s true, for I am yet to meet anyone who doesn’t abide by this book. So when I came across ‘welcome to advertising. now get lost’ it seemed a refreshing change from the age-old Ogilvy ke advertising nuske.
And well, I wasn’t a bit wrong. It’s a book that after reading (I am sure) every single advertising professional would wish to write and a non advertising professional would, well, be tempted to be an advertiser. It is a well written, witty yet grounded book that takes you on a rollercoaster ride of what happens in an advertising agency on a day to day basis, with all its inside and not-so-inside jokes, situations et al.
With humour in every line, it’s a book that everyone in the advertising industry would relate to. While reading through this quick witted work of art, one would constantly giggle and say to oneself- ‘I KNOW!’ Right from tantrums thrown by the creative team, work days starting after 7pm, the endless nights, too much coffee, the overworked art directors, endless complaints and happy and sad twists – this book hits the nail on the head.
What adds to the whole reading experience are the designs and pop art running along the pages. It sure gives the book a ‘creative’ feel. When you pick up this book, you know for a fact that you are in for a visual treat.
Welcome to Advertising! Now, Get Lost is an essential read for everyone who is or wants to get into advertising. It tells you what is in store for you. And for others, who are not related to advertising, it’s a well written, laugh riot with vivid visual appeal, i.e., A must read!
