S. Stansfeld Sargent

Extremely dated (1965; I hope no one uses the term "mental deficient" anymore, not to mention the horrendous experiments on both animal and human subjects) but seems to provide a useful, basic review of the field up to that time. Definitely behavioristic in orientation--refers to language as "verbal behavior" and makes no mention of Chomsky, though I believe his work was shaking things up at the time the book was in its second edition (the one I have).
