Samm Schwartz (1920–1997)

A collection of "Archie" stories from the late '50s to the early '70s, illustrated by one of the more able artists in the "Archie" studio, Samm Schwartz, who helped launch Jughead from a minor role into a major supporting one. The stories, most of them with Jughead in a major role, are all enjoyable fluff, with one that shows Jughead in an atypical heroic role.

Samm Schwartz was a principal artist and writer of Archie Comics for many years, and is credited with vastly expanding the role of Jughead Jones in the group dynamics. This collection of pretty good stories from the early '60's bears that out; Jughead is the lead player in all these stories. The artwork is good, though there are others I've seen that I prefer; Betty and Veronica in particular seem a bit stodgy. A worthy addition to the body of "Archie" comics.
