A great prequel to Mojo (though published after the original thriller), this chilling tale chronicles an urban legend investigation that starts out as a fun journalism project for Halloween but quickly turns into something much more grave. This book will make you jump out of your skin at even the slightest settling of your house and may make you think twice before you start to connect the dots to any creepy happenings going on in your town.

Keep the lights on, burn a candle (or ten), or make sure that it’s broad daylight outside when you pick up this creepy paranormal-infused tale. The phrase en media res comes to mind with this book...so much so that its sequel is actually a prequel to help us figure out what we’ve missed leading up to the book! It’s great, though, because Mojo lets us get right into the action without having to worry about being bogged down by character development right from the get-go.

Scottie was such a great character...I felt like he could have been a friend that I knew in real life. This book was scary, but not too bad-it’s definitely not for people who get easily scared though! The mansion was awesome, and sounded like a place that I wanted to go in real life to investigate things for myself.

Mojo was such a great read, I didn’t want to put it down! I loved watching Scottie develop as a character and learn to fight his battles, and made sure that I always had a light on when I was reading this creepy, action-packed thriller. This was a great book...something that I’ll definitely be recommending to my friends who like to read scarier things.

It’s books like Lost Mojo that make me so glad I’m not from a small town...I don’t know what I’d do if something like this ever happened to me. What starts out as research for a documentary/school project quickly turns dangerous when ambitious and excited students stumble upon what can only be described as a terrifying situation.

I felt like Lost Mojo was different from most mysteries because usually with detective work there’s a sense of implicit danger or something is being delved into that could potentially end badly for a protagonist. In other cases, things seem scary and there are things that just might be lurking in the shadows, but we can’t totally tell...here, the danger was more outright, because we knew from the very beginning of the book there was a murderer on the loose, luring people into traps. It just made the book even creepier, knowing that things could end badly at any point, but I couldn’t bring myself to stop reading until the crazy end.

Creepy...just overall, really creepy. Sedersten doesn’t wait to get into the terrifying action, jumping right in and having us meet Scottie and experience a nightmare with him right away. We get the impression that these episodes have been going on for a quite a while, and increasing in frequency, so I think that we come into the action at just the right time-I would have been annoyed to read a hundred pages of buildup, but we definitely don’t get that with Mojo. Right away, we’re meeting Scottie and weird things are happening...and quickly escalating. I really liked the description of the mansion, too...it was like something off of a movie set or a freaky Halloween haunted house. Definitely stuck with me, even after reading the book. Great, but not for the easily scared.

Kris Sedersten has done it again...if you liked Mojo because of its spooky plot twists and turns, you’ll love Lost Mojo just as much. This book, even though it’s the second one in the series, is actually the prequel to Mojo, which is actually really helpful because there were several moments in Mojo that left me confused-now we get to see the back story, and find out how everything got started. But overall, this book was just as creepy and thrilling as its counterpart in the series. I can’t wait for more from Kris.

Scottie Brown has long struggled to come to terms with his identity as a person, but when he finds out that his family has secrets that have come back to haunt him-literally-he is propelled to take action to save his own life. However, Kris’s voice managed to shine through and her plot kept me guessing at what would happen next. In this bewitching tale of ghosts, mystery and faith, the reader watches a boy as he goes through the terrifying experiences that ultimately turn him into a man. Overall, a great read!

Lost Mojo reminds us that writers can craft detective and murder mystery novels without taking themselves too seriously. Sometimes, the paranormal can even get involved, and the reason that people can’t explain what’s going on is because they-perhaps literally-can’t see what’s going on right in front of them. Kris does a great job of writing in a teenage voice, blending a little bit of naivete with the headstrong tendency of teenagers to think that they know what’s going on in the world around them-until they’re proven oh, so wrong. This novel is a great read when you’re in the mood for something that’s a little bit darker that keeps you guessing.

Scottie Brown has been experiencing nightmares and apparitions for a long time before he decides to take action, the decision being propelled by when the dark presence starts to affect the other people around him. Playing detective with his family tree, he discovers that the ghosts of his ancestors-people who he thought were out of his life for good-have come back to haunt him and have entirely too much influence in his real life for his liking. The physical danger inflicted by the paranormal forces propels Scottie to an ultimate clash with his personal and familial demons that will leave readers everywhere with goosebumps.

I picked up Mojo expecting to read a horror novel, but was actually pleasantly surprised by the ample amount of life that had been breathed into the characters. And don’t get me wrong, there was definitely enough “scary” in the book for me. In this thriller-turned-bildungsroman, we witness a coming-of-age of Scottie; unfortunately for him, that coming of age is propelled by fighting dark forces that seek to continue their dominance in his life-potentially by ending it. A grandfather seeking immortality from beyond the grave is just one of the characters at work in this novel-I don’t want to give it all away, so you’ll have to read the book itself to find out more!

One of the things that I liked most about this novel was watching the character development of Scottie, who changed a great deal over the course of the novel, almost to the point of seeming like an entirely different person by the end of the book. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such a prominent change in a character-though I guess that considering the creepy things Scottie has to endure, it’s not all that surprising that he became a little less selfish by the end of the book. Sedersten definitely did a great job with this one, making sure that neither character nor plot was shortchanged as Scottie fights against forces that have been terrorizing him for some time.

I am deathly afraid of urban legends so even though a friend recommended this book to me, I was skeptical. However, I am a sucker for paranormal activity so I couldn’t say no. This epic journey of murder and mayhem ends on Halloween where good and evil finally come together...who will prevail? You will have to read to find out!

I love the idea of investigating urban legends in a small town, especially paranormal ones, so Lost Mojo blew me away. (It always seems to be the teenagers who get into the most trouble with urban legends, because the adults are either too busy to care or have just written things off as something that they can’t explain; so, I thought the characters in this book were totally believable and maybe even relatable for some people.) The natural inquisitive nature of these characters keeps them guessing about what could be really going on, but they have no idea what they’re really in for as things get darker and creepier with every new discovery.

As a paranormal investigator, Kris Sedersten sure knows the ins and outs of a great thriller and Mojo is no exception. This paranormal journey is not for the faint of heart and kept me guessing until the very end. Can’t wait to see more from this talented author.

Kris Sedersten's first foray into publishing is with the psychological thriller Mojo. Published in 2010, it follows Scottie Brown, a New Orleans college student who, after being hunted by vivid nightmares and daytime apparitions begins searching for an answer; unwittingly putting himself and those closest to him in a confrontation with evil.

To defeat the energy that torments him, he recruits a team of paranormal investigators, friends from high school, and a psychic medium. Together, they pursue the ghost of Scottie's ancestors in a haunted plantation deep in the Louisiana countryside. They uncover dark family secrets and the spiritual energy of a malevolent patriarch who projects an unholy prophecy that has deadly consequences for all mankind.

After reading the blurb I was initially dubious about the plot of the book, but as always gave it a go, and was pleasantly suprised. The plot works well and is full of suspense, and the characters, especially Aimee, were well thought out and reacted believably to plot events. Scottie, the main character, develops throughout the novel, starting as a somewhat selfish and immature individual but growing into a somewhat more thoughtful, mature person.

Overall, it is a horror filled, enjoyable read, which grabs you, and makes you want to keep reading till the end. My only criticism is that some of the dialogue was just a little off for me, almost clumsy in places; something that is hard to explain, and does not significantly affect the experience of reading Mojo.

Mojo is not a book I would recommend to a friend who liked paranormal thrillers or books with Christian themes, and not because this book does a very strange job of blending these two elements such that you might not find it on the shelves of your local Lifeway, nor up there on the top-x lists of paranormal thrillers. While the story was good, and interesting, and all that jazz, the telling of it was done rather amateurishly.

What this book lacked was a strong building of tension. At one moment, things would be fine, and then, before you could even build some page-turning, palm-sweating, what's-that-around-the-corner mystery, the ghost has already come and gone, and the reader is left with a "Huh? Did I miss something?"

Added to this were other subtle rookie mistakes of writing: too many adverbs, tsunamis of exposition, and my biggest pet peeve: 'alright'.

The story, though, when seen past all of its warts, would make for an interesting book, if written by someone who had a better mastery of the craft.

There are so many books out there, so I recommend skipping this one unless you really have nothing better to do.½

Move over Stephen King. This book has it all. A real page turner. Well rounded and believable characters. One of those books that keeps you guessing as to what comes next. I really enjoyed reading this one.

When you've got time to curl up on the sofa and remain uninterrupted for awhile, pick up Kris Sedersten's new book, Mojo - a mystery-thriller with mind-griping paranormal overtones. In "good versus evil" thrillers, Mojo is one that you won't want to put down until you turn that very last page - and you might discover that you've been holding your breath for awhile.

Scottie Brown is haunted by disturbing nightmares, and even glimpses apparitions when the sun is out. Scottie feels that he must find answers for these tormenting visions and begins the experience of a lifetime. Set in the mojo-city of New Orleans and a haunted, Louisiana plantation, this fast-paced paranormal mystery-thriller contains dark family secrets, unholy prophecies and what might result in a deadly outcome for everyone on Earth.

Sedersten weaves a tale that demonstrates to readers that having faith in a greater power can lead us safely through the worst nightmares - real or unreal. Scottie is a college student in New Orleans who brings in a team of paranormal investigators, friends and a psychic medium to help him research his deceased ancestors and soon discovers deadly secrets and obstacles that could change his life drastically.

Readers who love a great ghost story will love every ghost and ghoul in Mojo - an action-packed tale of the spiritual world that will make your hair stand on end. The media today is full of movies and books that regale stories of the paranormal and many are difficult to believe, but Sedersten combines reality with the afterlife in a way that's totally believable. That's what makes it so scary.

One reason that Sedersten became fascinated by the paranormal was the video, "Haunted Nebraska," which was produced by the Midwest Paranormal group. The video was based on actual paranormal evidence caught on tape and that contained strange noises and unexplained shadows. "Haunted Nebraska" chronicles a real event and mystery that remains unsolved.

Sedersten became enthralled with the idea of writing a story that involved making contact with a ghost or spirit who has transitioned to the other side. She found it disturbing, but strangely comforting at the same time. Sedersten's research led her to a creative surge that resulted in writing the book, Mojo.

Mojo has more twists and turns than the streets of New Orleans. There is a spiritual message, but the book never becomes "preachy." Sedersten presents her ghosts and ghouls descriptively and believably and all of her characters (including the spooks) become very much alive on the pages. As you follow Scottie and his team in his quest to solve the puzzle, you certainly won't be bored and you'll want to know more about this author and her future books when you turn the final page.
