What a refreshing historical romance. Felicity is a smart woman who knows how to take care of herself, her man and others along with making her place in the town. Jake was not a jerk of a man, rather one that despite his reluctance to give his heart again, finds himself caring deeply for his woman and he supports her in all that she does.
The sex scenes are hot and believable because you can feel the growing affection between the couple. I’m looking forward to the next book by these two authors.

When I first picked up this book and read the description, I thought, “A book about the end of slavery and getting freed slaves north, with a love story mixed in…sounds good.” When halfway through the book that part of the story seemed to end. I thought, “Okay, now what’s the story going to be about?” A lot! Southern Charm, a mad, rich, powerful daddy, an ex-lover, and sweet love scenes, just to name a few!

Felicity is so passionate and determined, anything she sets her mind to she does. She helps anyone who needs it, even if that means marrying Jake to keep him out of jail. After all, she is the one who got him there. As she and Jake learn how to be married, she also learns that with Jake at her side, there’s not a lot that can’t be done. As she makes the town she’s living in a better place, she gains the respect of Jake. But he knows that one day, he’ll have to let her go. After all, they aren’t in love…or are they? Will they let love slip through their fingers just because they are afraid of being hurt?

This book is quick, easy read. Great for a lazy afternoon of resting, relaxing and reading! While it is a historical, it really doesn’t read like one, so even if you’re not quite a fan of historical romance, pick up a copy anyway! I’ll bet you’ll find you like it! I’m looking forward to reading more books from The McCade Legacy Series. This book was received for an honest review from the publisher.
