The Graduate is an album of songs from the soundtrack of Mike Nichols' movie The Graduate, featuring many songs from the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel as well as several instrumental pieces by Dave Grusin. Released on January 21, 1968, the album was produced by Teo Macero.

Although the album features two versions of the acclaimed "Mrs. Robinson", neither is the full version as featured on Bookends. The first is an instrumental, while the second is abbreviated, tapering off as it does in the film. However, the other major song of the album, "The Sound of Silence" is used three times in the film.

The fourth album produced by these two classic '60's and more performers. Somewhat dated with overemphasis of stereo sound due to the fact it was so new.

This is a classic recording. It has four major hits by Simon and Garfunkel: Scarborough Fair/Canticle, Homeward Bound, The 59th Street Bridge, and For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her. Cloudy is a sweet, quiet song. The Dangling Conversation is another one I have grown old enough to appreciate. 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night is powerful and hasn't lost anything over the years.

I like this a lot, but not as much as the Greatest Hits and Bridge over Troubled Water albums. It is a classic album; if you like Simon and Garfunkel, I think you'll like this album.½

Oh my goodness, this was one of my favorite recordings back when it was released on vinyl. I quickly got the CD when I first saw it as I wanted to hear it without the hissing and popping of the worn-out LP.

It opens with a bang with three great hits: Bridge over Troubled Water, El Condor Pasa, and Cecelia. The Boxer is also one of their greatest. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate the melancholy beauty of So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright. Anyone who has been dumped understands Why Don't You Write Me and Bye Bye Love. It winds up with the quiet Song for the Asking.

This is an iconic recording. Everyone should listen to it at least once.

I had this when it was originally released as an LP. I only have two other of their CDs (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme and Bridge over Troubled Water) so some of the songs are totally new to my collection. These are Mrs. Robinson, Sound of Silence, I Am a Rock, America, Kathy's Song, and Bookends. What a great collection this is! I cannot pick a favorite as all of them are terrific. The harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel are clear in this CD.

It is a collection that is a reflection of the early 70s, so it is important historically as well as musically. And I do love it and missed having it; I am glad I replaced it finally.

Debut album was par for the era. The covers of the folk / pop / rock standards were nice arrangements, especially because of Garfunkel's ethereal tenor (Simon's voice is rough and nasal on some tracks), but two of Simon's originals were my favorites ("Sparrow" and the arrangement of "Benedictus"), in addition to the outstanding "Sound of Silence" which made their name.
