Bill Smallwood conducted extensive interviews with pilots and commanders very soon after the First Gulf War, then skillfully integrated those interviews into an outstanding narrative. Quoting extensively from the interviews, Smallwood's book puts the reader in the A-10 in the war. This is a model for the use of interviews and oral histories to tell an informative and interesting story.
