Great for K-1. Second-graders did not really like it. The character is a preschooler. The second-graders could not relate. There is a very nice youtube read-aloud (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnY0QoTGnK0) which also includes inspirational comments about overcoming fear.

This book encourages imagination and adventure in young girls.
It reminds students that you can be creative on your own, you don't need a big family or a bunch of friends to have a good day. This story is great for younger students who enjoy being creative and using their imagination.

Just in time for Halloween - a fun addition to the Ladybug girl cannon. Trying on lots of different options, she stays a hero and true to herself.

These illustrations! Ranging from striking seascapes to comedic vignettes, they alone could make Three Bears in a Boat worth the read. That the story accompanying them is sweet and fresh and adept at offering a lesson without feeling preachy or predictable is even better.

The Impossible Mountain is a charming and nostalgic read with a slight fairytale feel to it. It reminds me of the style of stories I read as a child, with small children going on big adventures, and overcoming huge obstacles…

Young Anna and her little brother Finn decide to embark on what most of the villagers think is an impossible venture—climbing to the top of the Impossible Mountain. They are warned of the dangers and ‘impossibilities’, but the brave and steadfast siblings are curious to see the world outside their walls and refuse to let anyone discourage them. They encounter wolves, snowstorms, cliffside trails, and even the Great and Terrible Bear. Will they conquer their obstacles and fears and reach the top? And if they do…, what will they see?

The pages of this hardback book are thick and sturdy, and the full-page illustrations are stunning! The pictures capture so much emotion and detail and held my attention throughout. And the story is full of adventure, tension, and wonderment.

With themes of determination, bravery, and cleverness, this imaginative tale is extra-special in my book!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review was not influenced.

This book is about two friends who are on a play date and one happens to bring a big dinosaur toy on wheels and Ms. Ladybug only wants to play with the dinosaur instead of her friend and she doesn't realize that by doing this she makes her friend feel bad, I like this book for the message and for the understanding and growth of relationships between the two friends in navigating communication of why her friend feels bad

This was a sweet story of 3 bears trying to replace a broken seashell. Their journey is not without its ups and downs but it all works out in the end. The story was lovely, and the illustrations perfectly matched. However, it is a bit long for story time.

My favorite part of this book is the apology. 1) I'm sorry 2) for blowing out your candle. 3) Can we fix it by having Mama light your candle again so you can blow it out the way you want? We'll be coming back to this as our kids need examples of how to apologize well.

My 18-month-old loves it & requests 'ladybug girl book' all the time. The bright costume & the imaginative play make it fun for the little ones; the adults can appreciate some of the subtle humor here and there. "There's nothing to do" in a room stuffed with toys.½

There are many reasons why I liked this book. One element of the book that I really liked was the language. The language in this story engages readers through its descriptive nature and imagery. For example, in the story the narrator describes the waves on the beach and states that “the ocean goes on and on and makes huge roaring sounds.” The language in this phrase allows the reader to imagine and hear the loudness of the waves because the author used descriptive adjectives to explain the sounds of the waves.

Additionally, the plot contributed to why I liked the book. For example, in the book, at the same moment that Lulu, the main character, and her dog, Bingo, decide to dip their feet in a water, a wave crashes that almost pulls them into the ocean. When she looks around and sees that everyone is happily playing in the ocean and does not worry about what happened to them, she realizes that it is okay and normal for that to happen. The timing of this event causes Lulu to face her fear and go into the ocean in order to get an item later on in the story. This plot creates a suspenseful tone that keeps the reader engaged and also is a main contributor to the lesson of the story: it is important to be brave and face your fears.

Lulu is planning to be Ladybug Girl for Halloween, of course! But her brother tells her she should be something different on Halloween. Lulu brainstorms several costumes, but when she (as Ladybug Girl) helps a lost kid at the apple orchard, she decides that she knew all along what she really wanted to be.½

This book was an awesome book. The characters were very well developed and 100% relatable. Lulu is a perfect character to relate back to readers 5-8. Throughout the book, she makes up excuses as to why she will not get into the water and in a way distracts herself away from it. Eventually she realizes that it is not so bad and she is glad she had conquered her fears. This book is a great example of Realistic Fiction because at times children tend to make up excuses over something they are nervous about. I think many young readers can definitely relate to this story.

I strongly enjoyed this book. I say that for many reasons, but the first reason being the illustrations. The illustrations were very realistic and pleasing to the eye. They were subtle and warm, which gave a lot of detail to the characters appearance. Secondly, I really liked the characters. I say this because they were very believable and everyone had their own personalities and that was portrayed very well. For instance, Lulu was a very hopeful little girl. When her family arrived at the beach she was showing her excitement and her brother quickly shot her excitement down when he said she has never been to the beach before how does she know she is going to like it? Lulu replied quickly with, "But I already know that I love it.". Lulu stayed hopeful and ended up having a great day. That takes us to the main idea. I believe the main idea is to always have hope. Even when people are trying to change that or situations seem to contradict with your hope, always stay confident and hopeful.

This is a very sweet book about a little girl who has to find something fun to do when her brother won't let her play baseball with him and his friends. She wears her ladybug costume and explores the world outdoors. Lovely full page spreads match the little girl's joy and curiosity.

How to play when there's just one person...then two...all the way up to ten, as children form a bigger and bigger group at a playground. Then it's time to go home - count down from ten to one - and then two again, as one child reads at home on his mother's lap. A wonderful, inclusive concept, beautifully executed.

I really enjoyed this book for two reasons. The first reason being that the character was extremely believable. I felt that I could relate to the main character, Lulu. In the story, Lulu has never been to the beach before and is super excited for her first time at the ocean. When she arrived, she was terrified because of how large the waves were. Most readers can connect to this book, as everyone has their own fears that they have to overcome. The second reason I loved this book was due to the illustrations. I thought the pictures in the book did a great job showing the reader how Lulu was feeling. For example, on page four and five, Lulu stands at the ocean, watching the enormous waves. These pages are completely covered with very large waves. I was able to see that Lulu was terrified of going into the water without even reading the words on the page.

Being Realistic Fiction, the story provides hope for readers who may be struggling to overcome a fear. In the book, I was able to read about the journey Lulu had. In the beginning she was terrified to enter the ocean because of the large waves. Throughout the story, she learns that the waves were not as bad as she thought. At the end, she wishes she had spent more time in the ocean. The main message the story is portraying is to never let your fears hold you back. Lulu wished she had spent the entire day playing in the ocean, rather than being scared of the waves!

Three Bears in a Boat is about three bears named Dash, Charlie and Theo on their adventure to finding their mom a new blue seashell after they accidentally broke hers. They decide to go out to sea to find her a new blue sea shell, but didn't have any luck. The three bears begin to argue putting the blame on one another, get distracted and end up floating into a terrible storm. Luckily, the storm pushes them back home where they finally find the blue shell they were looking for. They apologize to their mom and present her with the new shell. This story teaches a lesson of taking responsibility for your actions rather than put the blame on someone else. In the classroom, we can discuss alternate ways the three bears could have solved the problem.

I found this book to have very vivid pictures and fun writing. The scenario I think is one that a lot of kids with siblings can relate to, but I thought there might have been more time to make the message more clear as the older brother very abruptly changes his mind and you don't get to see how the little brother was effected by being left out. I did get to listen to the author explain his books though and his love for children's literature, and that warmed me to the book much more.
