Rezensionen

Noir story, reminiscent of Hammett, starts fast and is really excellent until the overcomplicated plot partially unravels into a climax that requires way too much explanation. The plot concerns a sort of political fixer trying to keep his boss's candidate for Governor of California from being embroiled in the boss's problems with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, you name it. The plot throws a few surprises at you and some expected violence, but the violent parts don't hold a candle to writers such as John McPartland. Still, very well-written with a constant edge of cynicism and dark humor, but lacking the truly memorable lines you find in Chandler. I'd definitely read this author again, either as John Spain or Cleve Adams.… (mehr)
