Andreas Stadler

In 2012 the Austrian Cultural Forum New York (ACFNY) reached out to me about contributing an architectural essay for a tenth anniversary book celebrating their building designed by Raimund Abraham. They knew from my "Guide to Contemporary New York City Architecture," which placed the building on the cover, that I was a fan. The 1,000-word essay I wrote looks at the context of New York City when Abraham won the design competition in 1992 (the building wasn't completed until 2002), how the skinny and tall building functions, and its impact on the city. The rest of the bilingual book includes an essay by ACFNY executive director Andreas Stadler, a catalog of the exhibition the book is based on, and essays on literature, art, music, and films. Alongside these essays, mine is the sole architecture contribution, and the one that gets to put the appreciation on the container, rather than the events and exhibitions put on inside the building.… (mehr)
