On the 3rd June 1969 the Australian Aircraft Carrier HMAS Melbourne crashed into the US Destroyer USS Frank E. Evans killing 74 American sailors. This book is written by the wife of the Captain of HMAS Melbourne and is a record of her involvement, it is also a record of the Subic Bay inquiry into the sinking and the subsequent court-martial and acquital of her Husband. It is an important book as it details a tragically near forgotten Naval disaster as well as the inquiry. It is the Authors contention, one that I find hard to disagree with, that the Subic Bay inquiry was rigged to find the US Navy was not at fault and that the court-martial was part of that. Unfortunately as it is mostly concerned with the inquiry it is really a court room story with a Naval aspect and it can be abit repetitive. Only for those really interested in this subject.… (mehr)
