This is a beautiful book of photographs and text focusing on the historic city of Prague. At more than 130 pages, it offers a comprehensive of the city. Its organization is by locality, with the following chapters: "Prague, Cradle of Bohemia"; "The Left Bank, from the Castle to the Charles Bridge, From Gothic to Baroque"; The Right Bank, from the Old town to the New, a Wealth of History"; and "Secession, The Floral Style".

The emphasis is on architecture (and in the first, historical chapter, art. The photographs are excellent, and some take up two-page spreads. Few photographs include people (unless by accident). However a few pages focus on 20th century history of the city with photographs of politicians and political demonstrations. As for the written information, it is detailed and informative; each photograph is identified carefully, and accompanying text presents a virtual travelogue to the armchair traveler.… (mehr)
