A nice finale to a gritty, realistic series about the RAF in WW2. It also showcases lots of RAF fighters during Harry's wartime activities.

Ground attack was an ugly dangerous business that was done well at a high cost. This book portrays it well.

Another airplane, the Typhoon and Flash Rose is back in business. The Typhoon though designed for other duties soon became an excellent answer to the FW 190. Having lost the Battle of Britain, the Germans resort to low flying hit and run tactics using their new and excellent fighter. The faster and more rugged Typhoon met the FW challenge very well and soon moved on to its own role as a fighter bomber. The characters and storyline nicely support and showcase this exciting new airplane in its emerging role, paving the way for the Thunderbolt and Corsair.… (mehr)

An excellent second episode of this quite good WW2 air combat series. Night fighting was a new trade for fighter pilots and the learning curve was quite steep. The author's pairing with a German viewpoint allows for excellent comparisons and contrasts. The Ju88 and the Beaufighter were the best at this time and very evenly matched. One shudders to think of Germans having AI of a similar quality to the Brits. For, at this time, The RAF had moved almost exclusively to night bombing because of their heavy daylight losses. The characterization is solid and the plot has lots of personal touches between the numerous and intense combat depictions.… (mehr)
