Summerhill's debut gives us a snapshot into the power of addiction. This dark novel introduces us to a mother and son, both with addictive personalities, struggling with life. The end offers a tragic twist that is both surprising and inevitable. Both mother and son feel inadequate in the wake of death of the father/husband and spend the rest of their lives comparing what they are actually doing to what they believe he would have expected of him. The book is sometimes confusing, but it is mirroring the mental status of the characters. It is also an interesting look at the city of Reno – so well known and yet unknown by the masses.
