Move aside Vince Flynn and Jack Reacher when it comes to tough guys; Jax and Avilon Revid redefine the meaning. These guys have been through the Special Legion which puts them in the less than one percent who survive. They are both stone cold killers and loyal friends, the nature of the friendship being one of the elusive questions that runs through Trust a Few. The action is fierce, sharp and finely drawn. But this is more than an action novel. It is a story of evolving relationships and loyalties, cast on the most violent of several planets created in this sci-fi action thriller. Throughout the characters drawn are convincing and lead the reader into caring about what happens to them as their relationships unfold. The only problem I had with this book was the ending: It came as a total surprise. The narrative just stopped like a movie shut off in mid-stream without warning or explanation. Though I appreciate the need to have a hook for a series, I think the ending could have happened more gracefully. However, I must admit, the sudden ending did live up to the author’s last name. That said, Trust a Few is worth the read and a sequel.
