The main subject of this book is the supposed close relationship between the Church-persecuted heretic Cathar sect of the 13th century and the iconography of the much later tarot-of-Marseilles which is attributed to ideological heirs and keepers of the lore of the former.
Although the many (sometimes alternative) proposed links between the extemporaneous two are mainly conjectural, circumstantial and sometimes far-fetched the author develops nevertheless Interesting fresh views on the original symbolism of the Tarot's trump cards in their contextual Medieval/Renaissance religious, political, social and philosophical settings.
A very important period of European political and religious history unfortunately virtually unknown to the general public is also dissected and commented in a very accessible and impartial way in this book.… (mehr)
