The Out Side is filled with comics from 29 trans & nonbinary artists as they share their personal journeys of self-discovery and acceptance.

This graphic novel doesn’t just focus on coming out, but some talk about the later processes of their life and what it means for them now.

There’s 29 different artists, so there’s 29 different styles of art and stories. Some I liked more than others, but I still enjoyed and loved this as a whole.

Highly recommend, especially for those who are trans and nonbinary as they will most definitely see themselves within these pages.

*Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for an advance digital copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review

Ooh this is such a beautiful book. The art is fantastic and as a non-binary person, I loved the representation. The stories are all a bit on the short side (not really surprising when you consider how many contributors there are, although this could probably have been split into multiple anthologies if total page length is the limiting factor) and I did find myself wishing that they went a bit more in depth. That being said, this is definitely a spectacular resource for anyone who may be questioning their gender and for those who want to understand what it's like to not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. Especially since many of the stories are about how the artists came to discover their gender identity. Just be aware that you may need to seek out other books if you want a more in-depth exploration of gender identity. But this is still a fantastic resource with how accessible it is and how the art captures the artists' experiences. I definitely recommend this book and hope that other find answers and understanding and/or see themselves in its beautiful pages

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.½

*reviewed from uncorrected eARC via netgalley*

compilation of comics created by trans and nonbinary artists (crowdfunded on Kickstarter) about their personal experiences, providing needed perspective on the wide and varied spectrum of gender identity that you wouldn't easily find elsewhere. I loved this collection of comics which I hope will let trans and enby people feel 'seen' and less alone, but which is also helpful for allies to be supportive and understanding as well -- each comic is like getting to know a new friend.
