I know that students may already by aware of the character Caillou so I think this could grab kids attention and help them draw interest in the story. This a very simple and informative read about meeting someone with Autism. I think the author does a good job of displaying some actions shown by those who have autism. This is a great book that introduces patience, awareness, understanding and friendship. Sophie is different and does not play or talk much with others. Caillou makes an effort to be Sophie's friend and make sure she is comfortable. It was very sweet seeing the friendship they create. Children could definitely understand concepts presented here because it is easy to follow along and read. I would love to own this book and use it in my future classroom.… (mehr)

Caillou is outside playing with Leo and his family when Clementine arrives wearing a blue ribbon. Caillou would like to win a ribbon and Grandma gets an idea. She decides to organize backyard Olympic games with competitions like the heel-to-toe walk, the biggest smile or the silliest walk. During the games, Caillou does not win a ribbon at first and he is getting sad, but Mommy reminds him that games are for having fun, not just winning ribbons. Caillou starts to have fun and forgets about the ribbons, but in the end, everyone gets a ribbon. Caillou learns that winning is not as important as having fun with his friends.

This is a great lesson for kids to learn and this would be a great book to have at home or at school to read before competition type games occur so children are prepared for not winning and gettting a prize.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a cute story about Caillou's family visiting Grandma and Grandpa on Easter. They have hidden eggs for Caillou and Rosie. When Rosie falls asleep, Caillou does not want to hunt for eggs without her. Grandma suggests the Caillou search for the eggs and then hide more for Rosie. Caillou takes a lot of care hiding the eggs for his little sister. A great way for older siblings to see a way to help/have fun with a younger sibling. These books are geared for toddlers (3 - 5) and their families and I would recommend it for family libraries.
