The main feature of this large (>9 x12") photo-laden book is its large, color photographs of the US states known as "New England". The photos concentrate mainly on Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, with Connecticut and little Rhode Island getting much less attention.

The photographs include natural vistas (landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, mountains), beaches, waterfronts, and farms, as well as urban locales, old buildings, and historic landmarks. Others show people engaging in work and outdoor recreation. The photographs are organized into five categories: Rural New England; The Coastline; Wilderness; Boston; and Glimpses (showing a miscellany of scenes). Each category is accompanied by an introductory paragraph, and each photograph is identified as to its location. The photographs are excellent in composition and color, and most are presented as a full page or a two-page spread. Moreover, despite the book's early (e.g., pre-digital) publication date (1986), all but a few of the photos are rendered in entirely- adequate resolution.… (mehr)
