The New Testament : the Authorised English version von Constantin von Tischendorf
The 1000th Tauchnitz title with a fascinating introduction to the New Testament by Tischendorf. It uses the authorised English version and compares with it readings from the more authoritative and earlier versions, the Codex Sinaiticus, discovered by Tischendorf, the Codex Alexandrinus and the Vatican Codex. The Codex Sinaiticus dates from the 4th century and has the complete New Testament. In the words of Tischendorf in the introduction, page xi/xii, 'The Sinaitic Codex I was so happy as to discover in 1844 and 1859, at the Convent of St. Catherine, on Mount Sinai, in the latter of which years I brought it to Russia to the Emperor Alexander the Second, at whose instance my second journey to the East was undertaken'.
