I'm not even sure where to begin. This is the most bizarre, original, and creative story I've ever experienced. If you're going to read this, find a quiet spot where you won't be disturbed. Expect your thoughts to be scrambled and tossed back at you like random puzzle pieces scattered on the floor. And just when you think you can't take it anymore, the last piece will fall on your head and knock you over.
I could tell you reasons why I shouldn't have loved this book. But, really, none of those things matter because it all works just as it's written.
We have past and present timelines, with no marked transitions, but there is a clear cue if you're paying attention. And you really have to pay attention. The present timeline is written in present tense and the past timeline is written in past tense, regardless of who's narrating. It's a technique that allowed me to keep the timeline of events straight.
This story is intended to confuse and confound, especially in the beginning. It swallows you in its murky depths because it has to be that way. Stick with it and you'll be rewarded with a trip like no other.… (mehr)
