4/11/22 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: 7 Steps to Freedom from Anxiety, Depression, and intrusive thoughts! 2nd edition by Lawrence Wallace
Why I picked this book up: I have used CBT for years and watched this in YouTube at work today.
Thoughts: A practical CBT review. It covers the usual depression and anxiety but adds intrusive thoughts so that was good. Many reviewers seem to love this book. The most proven method for successfully treating mental suffering is CBT. However, there are also complimentary practices coming from Buddhist and Stoic philosophy. This book is aimed at equipping you with the best and most effective techniques for overcoming depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. These are long-term solutions that have stood the test of time and scientific rigor. You will learn exactly how to: · Understand what makes your mind tick · See the link between spirituality and self-help · Confront anxiety head-on! · Challenge unhelpful, intrusive thoughts · Build a better relationship with yourself · Break bad habits and enjoy life! · Optimal life management + bonus workbook! Wallace's book is a simple, step by step guide to individual CBT. He is very understanding of the many different types of people who may be reading this book, and that makes it much more helpful than other guides that just focus on cookie cutter solutions. The workbook at the back is great, and the numerous suggestions for incorporating spiritual or secular beliefs were also helpful. I also really appreciated that a wide range of possible mood-lifting activities were suggested. Many other guides automatically assume an able-bodied readership, and activities tend to involve certain physical capabilities. The fact that Wallace listed nature documentaries as being a good solution for those that can't get time in nature made the book feel much more inclusive.
Why I finished this read: it was good and interesting writing, simple review and a good refresher to read.
