Rezensionen

This book is jarring. I had to stop reading it for months because it was just too much. From grade school through college, explanations of slavery, Jim Crow, The Civil Rights movement, have a few pages in a massive text that amount to a suggestion that mistakes were made. If you put aside all of the hostile minimizations, it is almost understandable because describing the reality is so grotesque. The book is more than a description of atrocities. It describes the fight for civil rights in Missippi and connects events to the present. If I could assign a required reading list for the U.S., this book would be on it.
