This short story is based on the true story of the Christmas Truce of 1914. World War I is in full swing and Christmas Eve has arrived. As the Germans and English watch from their trenches as night falls, the Germans begin to sing (in German) "Silent Night". Soon, the English join in ans soon after that both sides are out of their trenches, trading belts, etc., sharing food, and showing photos of their families, and talking like old friends. They know that at midnight they must once again become enemies but, for now, an unofficial truce has begun.

The author has taken a historial event and added her own touches, making this story personal and very touching.… (mehr)
