More of these books will be published as increasing numbers of classroom-trained instructors try their hand at online teaching. Those who already have taken the plunge learned fast that there is a big difference between teaching in a classroom and teaching from a computer. For one, lectures are out of the question and, if attempted, become a sure path to massive rejection in the form of drops. In fact all traditional pedagogies -- collaboration, peer editing, participation in discussion -- must be recast in order to work with an online class.

This book is useful in that it covers the waterfront addressing topics relevant to teaching a general writing course online. This, too, may be a fault. For an instructor completely new to online teaching, this book may offer too much information, too many choices and options that, to benefit from, demand considerable familiarity with online tools and resources.
