Judith Wax (–1979)

This book is dipped in irony as thick as cream gravy. It's a collection of humorous essays on aging, by a bright woman well launched into middle age and almost immediately to die in one of the nation's worst plane crashes, at least as of 1979. Smile after smile fades from your lips as you read from line to line: lines like: "When the job required travel, I developed such a fear of airplanes my head trembled from takeoff to landing", and "A great deal of what has confused me in this life is the disparity between the MGM endings on which I was nurtured and the recalcitrant ways of real events." Aghast, that's how you feel; far, far from the wry "please don't eat the daisies" spirit in which this book was produced.… (mehr)
