An adorable, cute, uplifting, friendship fiction with interesting characters, obstacles, and happy endings. The perfect read to cheer your blues on a cold afternoon. Note that the characters are Christian, and "live" that way, so please pass on this one if for some reason that's not for you. Well written and recommended for a smile!

Jenna Davis, temporarily blinded by the sun, runs smack into a young man and he is instantly taken with this "pixie" that he dubs "Strawberry Shortcake". Dyson is a man of few words and he soon learns that Jenna never stops talking, as in "Was she still talking? Good gravy, did she ever stop?"; he also realizes that "Just his luck, the first girl to spark an interest in months and she had to be three beans shy of a burrito." These funny observations sealed my opinion of this Air Force mechanic---I really, really liked Dyson!

Author Jaycee Weaver has created two fascinating characters and filled their story with both humor and sadness. Jenna is a sweet, lovable, hometown type of gal, who seems to "have the world on a string" but she is carrying a heavy load inside and it takes a special person like Dyson to help her accept her past. Dyson has been hurt by a father who left when he was ten but his mother successfully raised a man of strength and faith and it is Dyson's trust and belief that helps Jenna understand that God has forgiven her and He still loves her. Another star added to Dyson's crown and it isn't until he delays telling Jenna that he is being relocated that I could find any fault in this man of few words! Is it possible that the blossoming relationship between Jenna and Dyson will end before it has a chance to take root and bloom? Will Jenna once again be hurt by another man that she thought she could trust?

Whatever Happens Next is part of a series but I never felt in the dark. I will, however, go back to the previous books because Jaycee Weaver has made me a believer. If you're looking for a contemporary romance laced with Christian values, you will definitely want to read Whatever Happens Next!

I received a complimentary e-book from the author but I was under no obligation to write a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

This is a delightful collection of five retold, re-imagined fairy tales, especially for the holiday season. I was familiar with one author, but am now also on the lookout for the other authors’ works. Here are my quick thoughts on each:

Upon a Dream by Andrea Boyd
This anchor story for the collection sets Sleeping Beauty in a theater with a unique twist for modern day. I enjoyed the unfolding of this retold fairy tale, with its updates for today’s world.

Claim My Heart by Mikal Dawn
Would you believe I have never watched Mulan? As a result, I had no “original” with which to compare this. This was my least favorite, but it was because of the character’s integrity.

A Snow White by Toni Shiloh
I liked the way Marcus asked God for wisdom even about the relationship. The “seven uncles” was a neat idea, especially the way that the relationships occurred.

Christmas Ella by Angela Ruth Strong
Strong always surprises me with her ingenuity, creativity, and humor in unexpected places. I have never met a story of Strong’s I haven’t loved.

A Splash of Love by Jaycee Weaver
As full of deceit and treachery as the original tale, this one was more painful. You’ll have to read it to see why I say that.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the authors. This in no way affected my opinions, which are solely my own.

Once Upon a Christmas is a collection of five novellas that are modern retellings of fairy tales. Each Novella has a different author and story, but they all are fun to read! The collections contains:

Once Upon A Dream by Andrea Boyd, a very cute story of Sleeping Beauty. I loved the author’s interpretation and how she worked a rare medical disorder into the story, I also loved that this book was set in a theater, the story felt very natural, I would enjoy it as a full length novel.

Claim My Heart by Mikal Dawn is Mulan inspired story that has a daughter representing her father without his knowledge for his health. I enjoyed how the author wrote her own story but beautifully weaved some lines from Mulan into the story.

A Snow White Christmas by Toni Shiloh is an interesting take on Snow White. Amala is fleeing her stepmother, but she has no idea the danger she is in I loved the Uncles in the family and how Shiloh illustrated that Family is more than blood. This book isn’t all fluff, and had a lot going on for it to be a novella.
.
Christmas Ella by Angela Ruth Strong is a modern Cinderella story. Ella works as location director for the King family’s Reality TV show, but when she gets too close to the prince of the family the true personality of the family comes out. I would love to get more of this story !

A Splash of Love by Jaycee Weaver is a delightful modern take on The Little Mermaid. I enjoyed this story from both perspectives, I did not see the villain twist coming, but I really enjoyed it!

I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
