I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am a nurse so could understand the pressures of the job. However, a military nurse in wartime takes it to another level. The book kept me wanting to turn the page to see what happened next.

"Just a small town girl" Mary who is in the reserves is called up for duty during the Korean War. Her chaotic home life - a husband who cheats and a sister in law who has abandoned her infant child to Mary - presents difficult issues but the government won't hear of a deferment and she is sent overseas.

I found that Mary's presence in this story interfered with my involvement. I initially thought I would rate this book a "4" but the book truly characterized the horrors of war; long 14 hours in back to back surgery, brutal living conditions and witnessing all the death and destruction, but this was very well written and I enjoyed it.

Thank you to LibraryThing for a copy for my review.

I received an advance copy of this book. Thank you.

What an amazing story. I grew up watching MASH and loving it, this book is 100 times better at really portraying the conditions, their struggles, their fears. Having read this book, I cannot imagine that I could have faced what they did. The author, Mike Weedall, so clearly depicts their fears, their lows and their highs. The comradery is so touching. It is not a long book; it moves quickly and never bogs down. A really great read.

This was a hard novel to read and very thought provoking. I received this free from the author and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given it a 5* rating. I'll start by saying, my father was a pow of WWII. My hubby and I were stationed in Bangkok, Thailand during the Vietnam War. His unit did the personnel work. We probably saw and heard more than some people realize. Needless to say, this story has a lot of feels and a lot of dealing with loss. And this gal, had troubles at home. They were worse than some and something she had to deal with along with being a OR Nurse. This author showed the pull and tug a lot of our military personnel are called to deal with. I call this a job well done.… (mehr)
