Tuck Everlasting

Winnie Foster lives a sheltered life, when one day she wonders outside of her yard into some property her family owns. As Winnie is walking she finds a boy drinking from a spring. Winnie then finds the boy is a part of the Tuck family who lives on her family’s property. She also finds that there is a spring that runs through it and if you drink from it you live forever. Winnie becomes quite fond of the Tuck’s and is faced with the decision of drinking from the spring.

I loved reading Tuck Everlasting, it has been so long since I have read it. I think it is a wonderful book that all students should read. This story keeps you on your toes wondering if Winnie is going to decide to live forever. I love the little relationship that Winnie and Jesse develop in the story and the crush they have on one another. When labeling this book I labeled it as Modern Fantasy.

After reading this book to my fourth graders I would have my thirds graders get into groups of two and have create the front page for the Treegap Daily Newspaper with the head lines “Women breaks out of Jail”. Each student will come up with their own picture to draw for the cover of the newspaper.

After completing the activity I would the class get to watch the movie Tuck Everlasting. After watching the movie the children will then use a Venn diagram to compare the movie and the book.… (mehr)
