The House Across the Way von Eliza Orne White
A lovely old fashioned book. Great group of kids. Not your usual curmudgeon softened by sweet children. I found it to have more body and depth. Even the rascally kid has his moments. I did have a few moments where I was lost amongst the characters and couldn't quite figure out who was who. But these moments passed and I really had a lot of fun reading this. I love to slip away into the quieter gentler world of these antique children's books. I will share this with my Vintage Book Circle group. I'm sure they will enjoy it.… (mehr)
I read this book when I was eight years old. Though I don't remember much about it, I know I was captivated by it and found myself reading it over and over again. I think modern grade-school girls would like it lot.
