Warrior : the first and the last von John Winton

Small 100 page museum souvenir guidebook. Very much a social history of Warrior, with a reasonable context for her building, a good description of life on board in the Victorian navy. Then comes the history of hulking, senescence, rediscovery and restoration in Hartlepool and finally the move to Portsmouth.

Not a technical description of ironclads or Victorian steam warships (try 'Steam, steel & shellfire : the steam warship, 1815-1905' for that), but a nice enough little book. Plenty of B&W photos.… (mehr)
