I did enjoy this book but it was my least favorite in the series. It had a few laugh-out-loud moments but I found the other 2 books to be more humorous. With that being said, I still couldn't put it down. Lots of fun.

I love all of the author's previous books but this one really wasn't for me. A little too outlandish. A baboon? Too over-the-top. I gave an extra star because she is one of my favorite authors. I will definitely read any future books she writes but I didn't enjoy this one.

I couldn't put this one down.. even at work! So fun! The characters were entertaining and it was easy to get emotionally-involved with them. I love historical romances and the mad-cap humor set it apart from others I've read. I would definitely read anything else the author wrote.

This story is firmly planted in two common Regency tropes, that of love developing between the dour guardian and his charge and a country mouse let loose on London society. Rather than overturning these tropes, the book embellishes them with well-meaning carryings-on and humor. It’s hard to do comedy well, but this tale manages without either breaking the timeframe or depending on malice. I chuckled and laughed aloud many times, as did the characters themselves.

Miss Penelope Fairweather is a genuinely loveable person who tries her best to help everyone she encounters regardless of social standing. She has a fierce protective streak and little sense of her own limitations. With the addition of a hateful step-mother, Penelope could have become a tragic figure. While she has moments of sorrow, though, her innate sense of self allows her to turn even deadly situations on their heads and make lifelong friends.

Her attraction to the Duke of Blackthorne, Charles Cornelius Radclyff, is immediate, though her admiration of his handsome features is quickly dampened by his scowl. He’s very aware of his position and responsibilities, which were thrust upon him at a young age when his father died, and does not appreciate the arrival of a tsunami to disrupt his carefully constructed life. He also feels Penelope’s draw, but sees it as dangerous and does everything he can to oust her. The combined efforts of his sister, his mother, and an unlikely ally are necessary to keep him from sending their guest home forthwith. The grim duke has much to learn before he opens his heart to the loveable heroine and her goat.

Speaking of the goat, Lady Bathsheba does not see herself as an animal and acts the confidant for Penelope more often than not. The supporting cast grows quite large by the end of the book, some of them with interesting stories of their own and others coming from unexpected places. Each has a different agenda, and few remain unchanged by Penelope’s good nature. There’s the duke’s sister, Lady Anne, as an instigator; the modiste convinced to transform Penelope; the grandfather Sir Henry with his ancient mind fixed on long-ago conventions; and so many others to add color to an already bright scene.

We know from the start this will be a somewhat melodramatic novel as Anne wants nothing more than chaos to enliven her life. She certainly gets what she’s hoping for in Penelope. The book lives up to its promise of a madcap tale. There is a bit of scheming that goes awry, but for the most part, Penelope either doesn’t think things through or is incapable of avoiding trouble, accidental or not.

As a historical romance, the ending is set. But how it comes about is appropriate to their adventurous courtship and to Penelope herself. Nor do the dress and conventions alone make the book feel Regency. The way they speak in excessive analogy is also splendid. Add to that how some characters slip, revealing hints of more to come, and the dialogue is skillfully written.

This book starts with a rather traditional premise, but it is the details and the laughter that bring this story to life. Penelope is a well-meaning sprite of chaos bringing disaster wherever she goes. I needed this read. You should see my extensive notes, full of things I cannot mention because of spoilers but which were too lovely not to tag. The story might not be momentous, but it’s a welcome break that both maintains the time, and provides a rollicking adventure and tale of true love.

Penelope Fairweather has been sent to London to seek her fortune (i.e. to snag a man of measure to marry). She is fortunate enough to have a sponsorship with a friend of her deceased mother to present her to society and escort her to the seasons events. Penelope is not exactly aristocratic timbre. She is pretty, but plain, clumsy, outspoken, is friendly with servants and highway men, and with her pet goat in tow, very much a country bumpkin. Will she be able to charm her society friends and win a husband.

"Penelope" is a fun, sometimes hilarious, sometimes silly read, which makes for marvellous, non-intellectually taxing, entertainment during this time of COVID-19. Would make great holiday reading.

Our favorite young governess is in trouble again. This time she is taking care of five young children as Gopshall Manor when a guest is found murdered. Naturally, suspicion falls on the two outsiders - governess for the children of the house. Lucy Trotter immediately goes to Lord Adair, who got her the job, for his help in solving the mystery and saving her from the hangman's noose.

There are many suspicious characters. There is Lord Willoughby who is an inveterate bad gambler with a temper and a penchant for bothering the maids. There is his wife who married him for his title and money but who really wanted the younger brother. There is the father of Lord Willoughby who has a habit of removing his clothing and belittling his son. There is the butler who is having an affair with Lady Willoughby and is blackmailing a number of young women.

This one also has a bit of romance when the second governess, who has been hiding a secret identity, falls in love with the younger and handsomer of the two brothers - the same one Lady Willoughby wants.

Lucy is sure that she will be able to solve the crime, if only Lord Adair will give her a hint. This story is a bit less silly than the first in the series but still has a number of humorous scenes and characters. I like that Lucy is one women who isn't one of the many ladies who are in love with Lord Adair and willing to do anything to attract his attention. I liked that she wanted Lord Adair to teach her how to investigate and how to protect herself and didn't want to be helpless.

I enjoyed this story and recommend it to fans of humorous historical mysteries.

First of all thanks to the author for providing me the book in return of a honest review. This book is about Goodness gracious Gracie and really she is one of the cute character I have read. It's about Grace being a American tries to unite a Indian family. At the beginning of the book she is very innocent. She tells a stranger about her breakup with childhood sweetheart Alfie and that stranger is nobody else but a big business tycoon Veer Singh who wants to make documentary about his family. Seeing innocent grace he employes her through a Irish film company. In this book Gracie is of helpful nature she does not look hot but she becomes a sweetheart of all men. Author's humour is very good in the narration. This book is really a sweet and cute Love story of Veer and grace. This book is majorly set in India's Mumbai and Goa. Being in the crew of making the documentary she understands the problem of Indian family and tries to solve it and finds success in very innocent way. She tries to soccer alcoholic Ranjeet by making him vines his love to his long time crush Smita. She also helps Veer's brother cukku as he gets very fidgety while giving interview for the documentary. Overall grace having a helpful nature tries to help the family in good way as well tries to complete her work. She tries to get this work only for forgetting her long time boy friend Alfie. Overall this book is about how a innocent grace finds her soul mate in Veer and how her small innocent actions win the heart of the Singh family and mainly Veer Singh. overall this book is a cute Love story which is a very awesome Goodread... 😊

Miss Lucy Ann Trotter was orphaned as a young child and raised and educated in an orphanage. Now grown, she has taken her first position as a governess at the home of Lord Sedley. Lucy is optimistic and imaginative and has a wonderful gift for description. However, she is also the perfect suspect when some jewels are stolen and Lord Sedley is found murdered.

The family has banded together and so have the servants leaving Lucy with no one to take her side except the handsome and desirable Lord William Adair who is famous for his investigative abilities . He enters the scene via hot air balloon and clad in his dressing gown after an unexpected flight.

Lucy decides that Lord Adair will likely side with the aristocratic family and thus has to investigate herself if she wants to avoid the hangman's noose. She enters into a contest with Lord Adair as to who will discover the murderer first.

Lucy's investigations take her to all of the family's rooms to search for the missing jewels and lead her to discover that the widow is having an affair with a valet and the eldest daughter is also romancing the valet. The eldest son seems too involved with collecting animals including a baboon, a crane, a raven, and a couple of pugs to have had anything to do with his father's death. While the youngest son seems to involved in drinking and gambling and chasing women to have any role in his father's death.

Lucy's investigations include disguising herself as a tree to follow after the widow and her eldest to try to overhear them conspiring and impersonating a chicken in the hopes that the chickens will get off their nests to reveal stolen jewels. Assisting Lucy in her investigations is the family ghost who is a bit distracted by her romance with another local ghost.

The story was engaging and silly. The descriptions were humorous and Lucy's actions comical. Readers looking for slapstick humor in their mysteries will enjoy Lucy's first case.

Lucy Anne Trotter is once again employed as a governess, this time for the Willoughby children at Gopshaw manor. Another governess, Jane, is also employed there to mind the children of the widowed Lord Claybrook, Lord Willoughby’s brother.

When visiting Lord Beazley is found dead in the snow in the forest, the Willoughbys look at Lucy as the likely suspect. There was a murder at the last place she work, so…

Luckily Lord William Ellsworth Hartell Adair, the Marquis of Lockwood, (international spy, renown national hero, the savior of the King and Regent, and the most handsome man in England), lives a horse ride from Gopshaw — a cold and long ride — but one Lucy takes to bring Lord Adair to solve the murder. Even though Lucy intends to be the one to solve the mystery, she knows that Lord Adair is a good man to have assist.

Jane, the other governess, finds herself added to the suspect list and also becomes determined not to be hung for a crime she didn’t do. Jane and Lucy make an interesting team.

Wylde’s writing brings to mind a touch of Raold Dahl and Barbara Cartland. Fast, fun, entertaining reads, with unique characters based on who you may find in a romance novel, only a little off kilter. I’ve enjoyed the two I’ve read and hope to read more!

I was given the opportunity to read this book by Anya Wylde, the author, and I thank her for it.

Lucy Anne Trotter was raised and educated at Brooding Cranesbill Orphanage and is now at ther first job as a governess for the Sedley family at Rudhall estate.

When a box of family jewels turns up missing and Lord Sedley is found dead of six stab wounds, the family decides Lucy is the guilty party. She is poor and has no family so she is a convenient choice.

Lord William Ellsworth Hartell Adair, the Marquis of Lockwood, international spy, renown national hero, the savior of the King and Regent, and the most handsome man in England has recently dropped in to the village of Blackwell…literally by hot air balloon.

When Lord Adair hears of Sir Sedley’s murder from the village doctor, who was given a silver tea set to keep his mouth shut, he immediately shows up at Rudhall to solve the crime. The thing that really interests him is the family’s attitude about the murder and theft. They only told Adair of the theft. When Lucy is accused of murder, Lord Adair becomes more intrigued.

This is a madcap adventure set in the Regency era. It has the ladies lusting after Lord Adair. Adair being mysteriously alluring, gentlemanly and dashing. The staff being loyal to the family, but still having secrets and schemes of their own. Clandestine meetings behind close doors. Bravery and determindness in finding what actually happened and who committed the murder by Lucy’s investigating and spying. There are healthy doses of clumsiness, possible solutions that are nowhere possible to be true.

Adair may be dashing and brilliant, but Lucy is brave, upbeat and determined. The combination works well and at a good pace. Pure entertainment!

I was given the opportunity to read this book by Anya Wylde, the author, and I thank her for it.

When Governess Lucy Anne Trotter is falsely accused of murder, she turns for help from the person who got her the job – Lord William Hartell Adair. Lord Adair agrees to help her but Lucy does some investigating of her own, along with the help of fellow Governess Jane Peyton. Lucy and Jane are on the verge of becoming good friends but Jane has a secret that threatens their friendship. Lucy begins to wonder just who she can trust and who is a killer.

“Death of an Aristocrat” is a laugh out loud murder mystery. I have laughed at all of Anya Wylde’s books but this one was particularly funny – I laughed from beginning to end. Lucy is a wonderful heroine – smart, impulsive, loyal, curious, a bit prone to making up stories, resilient after a tough life in an orphanage, and determined to eventually find out what happened to her parents. The other characters are equally memorable – particularly Jane. While the book is humor filled, the humor never gets in the way of the mystery. The mystery is well plotted and mixed in with the humor are some dangerous and at times scary moments. I was kept guessing as to who the killer was and the scene where the killer is revealed was actually one of the funniest in the book (I’m chuckling just thinking about it). Finally, the last sentence of the book is an unexpected stunner.

“Death of an Aristocrat” is a wonderful humorous murder mystery.

I have read all of Anya Wylde's books and have enjoyed them all. Most have been historical romances, but this one is a contemporary romance. Set in England and India, it was great to see another side of the world from where I live. The details about India were especially interesting.

I enjoyed the love story about Tabby, her fiance Chris, and the man she is attracted to, Dev. As in her other books, the heroine is very quirky, but with a good heart. She tries to do good in the world, with sometimes disastrous results. The story was fast paced and funny. Aside from a confusing opening chapter, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I received a free ARC from the author.

This was a nice, easy book to read. Although there were several characters, it was not hard to tell them apart. I liked Emma and Catherine very much. Emma's fiance, Richard, was also enjoyable to read. When Richard hatches a plan to try to get married sooner, he impersonates a gardener. At times, I wanted to cringe while reading, because the lie becomes more and more convoluted. There are also several people who are hiding secrets of their own. There is blackmail and a murder to liven things up. I thought this book was a fun diversion, and would be happy to see more from this author.

I was lucky enough to get this book for free. It was super fun to read. I kept smiling as I read it. The main character, Penelope, was so funny and over the top. The book had some other crazy characters too, most notably Madame Bellafraunde and Jimmy, the Falcon. I enjoyed reading any scene that these two were in. The romance aspect was a little predictable, but since this is a romance novel, that is to be expected. I liked that Penelope was so good hearted. It was a pleasure to read about nice people. No one in the story was evil. Even Penelope's rival for the Duke's affections was not too mean. I had previously read [b:The Wicked Wager|15821502|The Wicked Wager|Anya Wylde|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344680506s/15821502.jpg|21550865] by the same author and liked it very much. I really enjoyed this book. I had read the previous book, Penelope, so it was fun to see Penelope return in this book. This book focuses on Penelope's step sister, Celine. She is also a likable heroine. The book moved along at a brisk pace, and was funny and amusing throughout. I was happy to see a few characters from the first book return for this one. This book just made me feel good.

This book is quite different from [a:Anya Wylde|6466990|Anya Wylde|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/f_50x66-9e23bac89f169d02e43709e42b361705.png]'s earlier books. Instead of being a light hearted historical novel, this is more of a magical fable. Short and easy to read in one sitting, the characters are very engaging, especially the princess. The magical world is unique, where all creatures appear to be sentient. I enjoyed the story, but was starting to hate her husband by the end. I also was a little confused as to the ending. When she flew off, where did she go and what did she become?

Yay, another book by Anya Wylde. She is one of the few authors that I will automatically read anything she writes. Her books are fun, silly and make for an enjoyable evening of reading.

Dorothy is book 3 of the Fairweather Sisters series. In this book, Penelope and Celine from the first two volumes return. Now they are trying to get their younger sister, Dorothy, married off. I felt that Penelope and Celine weren't as engaging as they were in earlier books, maybe because they are now married with children. Dorothy is a fun, quirky character who speaks her mind. Her story also seemed a little more touching than her sisters, as Dorothy tries to find her place in a new household and with a new husband.

I received a free copy of this book from the author. I definitely recommend this book and the other books in this series.

Let me just say that I really like [a:Anya Wylde|6466990|Anya Wylde|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/f_50x66-e0ba3b90c110cd67123d6a850d85373e.png]. Her books just make me smile when I read them. They are not "deep" by any means, but they are a lot of fun. The main character, Lucy Trotter, was crazy and engaging. I also liked her budding relationship with Lord Adair. Not a romantic relationship, but a friendship. I hope that they are featured in another book.

When I started out in this book, I think I expected Penelope to continue a fairly dominant role as in the first book. But this book centers more on Celine, Penelope's step-sister. Celine is her own woman--not nearly as funny as Penelope, but that changes as the story continues. In the first several chapters--or first half of the book--Celine strikes me as prim and proper. After meeting Lord Elmer, she begins to lose interest in the search for her fat poet, Philbert Woodbead. As their friendship grows to something more, she begins to let down her hair. Her feelings for Philbert are gradually transferred to Lord Elmer.

And can I just say that "Philbert Woodbead" is an AWFUL name for a potential love interest!! I loved how Lord Elmer constantly butchered his name.

Love is not always rosy. Celine eventually learns that what she thought she had with Philbert was nothing but infatuation. Philbert only showed interest in her when he learned of her family ties with the Duke and Duchess. Philbert was madly in love, all right...with the family name, prestige, and potential dowry. But he had no heart at all for Celine. She was much better off without him.

Back to Lor Elmer--who had always been interested in her from the very beginning---even though she had nothing really to offer in a marriage. Nothing but herself. And he was more than okay with that. That, my friends, is love.

I truly loved this book. Everything was so over-the-top funny. The main character was adorable, and a riot. She had the most eccentric mindset. And the novel covered all the bases. It was deep, heartwarming, amusing, cute, and offbeat. I will track down more books by this author and devour them.
